Duckworth is the first Senator to give birth while in office. After her daughter, Maile, was born, the Senate rules were changed so Duckworth could bring Maile on the Senate floor and breastfeed her daughter during votes. The last time Senate rules were changed like this was when service dogs were allowed in 1977.
