Helen Zia is an award-winning author and journalist, an activist, and a NAPAWF Founding Sister.
Helen Zia was instrumental in organizing Detroit’s Asian American community against the murder of Vincent Chin in 1982. Through her writing, she has been outspoken on racial justice, LGBTQ equality, and AAPI feminism. In 2008, Zia and her partner became one of the first same-sex couples to legally get married in California. That same year she was also one of the 79 people in North America who carried the Olympic Torch.
